Open Day

Covey's Open Day in August was very successful.  Lots of people dropped in to have a go at our activities which included cookery, crafts and woodwork.  Many faces were also painted resulting in lots of happy children.

Thanks go to all our volunteers who helped out that day and to Ronnie, Kim, Elaine, Stuart and Alison who kept everyone busy with the activities.

Next Step Befriending

The autumn session of Next Step Befriending has unforunately run into a few difficulties.

The fooball skills that were planned had to be cancelled at the last minute due to lack of a coach.

Ready Steady Cook started with a flurry at the beginning of October with five young people and their befrienders preparing, cooking, serving and eating a lovely dinner.  This session not only helped to teach our young people (and some of our befrienders!) some cooking skills but also allowed the young people to set a table, serve the food and gave us all a chance to sit down together for a meal.  (No TV dinners here!!)  Since that first session, disaster has struck with Elaine having an accident and then the kitchen being closed for refurbishment - we hope to be back on track soon.

Get well soon Elaine.

Transition Befriending

This programme is aimed at young people who are at a transitional stage in their lives, such as moving from school into employment.

Three young people completed their training in October.  One is now matched with another young person.

Training

The latest volunteer training session finished in November.  We now have three new befrienders eagerly waiting to be matched.

School Befriending Pilot

We have been very lucky to be given the funding to pilot a school befriending scheme.

The pilot will support young people in the Carluke Learning Community by providing a volunteer befriender who will spend 1 - 2 hous a week supporting a young person who needs some time out within school or who is not engaging with school.  These volunteers will provide a 'listening ear'.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with this exciting new initiative so if you, or someone you know, can spare 1 - 2 hours during the day please give Christine a call at the Lanark Office.
